BLAME IT ON THE RAIN!!NYC RESTAURANTS UNDER WATERHERE’S WHAT TO DO NOWHL Clients and Friends, I know. Just when we think the worst is behind us and busy season has kicked in, the rain, of all things, just crushes us. So many restaurant and bar basements are under water and it’s awful and I know you’re all in the shit, so here is a quick list of things to do now and in the next few days. Insurance Once you assess the damage, call your insurance broker/agent and have a conversation about whether it makes sense to file a claim. Under 10K in damage, probably not, over 10K, perhaps. Have the convo and ask if you’re covered for sewer and drain backups. Employees Be accommodating to staff and be cool about commuting delays etc. Keep everyone safe. Lease
Take photos of all water damage and document everything. Check your lease to see if your landlord has any obligations related to your situation. Also check the casualty clause to see if the flood allows for an abatement period. Pump the basement asap obv.
