Pot Will Be Legal!

The legislators in Albany and Governor Cuomo have hashed out their differences and the New York State Legislature is set to vote on Cannabis in the coming days. They have the votes and they will pass legislation that will legalize recreational cannabis in New York. You heard that? Pot will be legal!!! No more Washington Square Park schwag or sketchy deliveries or getting busted for having it.
Once it passes, it will go to Governor Cuomo for his signature. Then, the Governor and legislators will work together on writing the cannabis regulations and the code.
New York State will employ a competitive application process, meaning that all applications will be graded against one another and only the best ones will be awarded licenses. While it’s not necessarily about who is FIRST to apply, it very much is about who applies BEST. And to apply best, you need to assemble an inclusive, thorough and impressive application package – including best of best talent, advisors, business plan, operational plan, ample finances and a qualifying location.
We are expecting applications for cannabis businesses in New York State to drop in the next six to nine months. If you are interested in getting involved in the cannabis industry, now’s the time to put the plan together and start raising money as the talent pool is relatively scarce and the sooner you begin to assemble the personnel and assets that you need, the better off you’ll be.
